Are You Game? Commonwealth Games 2022.

Back in 2018 we saw our beloved Birmingham be crowned the official host city partner of the Commonwealth Games set to be between the 27th July – 7th August 2022. Giving a chance for Birmingham to be showcased on a global scale, demonstrating how it’s evolved over centuries from the industrial revolution to a global powerhouse of innovation and creativity.

“The fact the commonwealth games is coming to Birmingham is amazing, I think it will be an indescribable event bringing athletes across the country together as one unified team”

Maria tsapsinos, Table Tennis England.

The ultimate incentive and mission of the games for Birmingham is to create the world of difference for everyone. Additionally helping to bring people together, improve health and wellbeing, help regions grow and succeed, become a catalyst for change and put the city on a global stage.

The weekend just gone saw celebrations to mark 3 years until the opening ceremony of the 2022 games, through hosting a commonwealth social in our very own centenary square and the grand unveiling of the new commonwealth logo.

“On this day in 3 years time, millions of people from across the globe will join us in celebrating the opening of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to truly put this city and vibrant region on the map”

Commonwealth Social

This community festival held at the weekend really captured the excitement everyone is channeling for the games and the essence of community, culture and togetherness. Through various sporting demonstrations, regional talent performances, and Digbeth Dining Club cooking up a storm. Check out the video below to see what went down.

Commonwealth Social – July 2019

As well as all this a wide range of local Team England Commonwealth Athletes attended the event, coming from table tennis, netball and gymnastics backgrounds.

“To get to compete in front of a home crowd will be a once in a lifetime, I am not stopping now, I want that gold for Birmingham”

Dominick Cunningham, tEAM England gymnast

Commonwealth Logo

The logo was unveiled and presented to be a bold and dynamic blue and yellow B to represent the Birmingham region via its personality and characteristics. The thought and notion behind the logo was clear, evident through the 160 hours it took to design. We see that the emblem links the venues where the sporting events will be taking place throughout the games, showing how the communities and regions connect with one another emphasizing the running theme of inclusivity.

Thought Behind Commonwealth 2022 Logo
